Human Trafficking
Men, women and children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders. Trafficking affects every continent and most countries. Every country is affected by human trafficking, whether they are an origin country where people are trafficked from; a transit country where people are trafficked through; or a destination country where people are trafficked to. Often a country will be all three. Men, women and children are trafficked. Due to the hidden and illegal nature of human trafficking, gathering statistics on the scale of the problem is difficult. The following statistics may represent an underestimation of trafficking, but are the most credible and frequently quoted. It even happens in your own back yard.
Here are some stats:
- 27 million people living in slavery today.
- People trafficking is the fastest growing means by which people are enslaved, the fastest growing international crime, and one of the largest sources of income for organised crime.
- At least 12.3 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide. Of these 2.4 million are as a result of human trafficking.
- 600,000-800,000 men, women and children trafficked across international borders each year. Approximately 80% are women and girls. Up to 50% are minors. • People are trafficked into prostitution, begging, forced labour, military service, domestic service, forced illegal adoption, forced marriage etc.
- An estimated 20,000 women and children are trafficked into the US every year.

About NEO
NEO (Newsong Mexico) is a third culture community that seeks a new experience with God. At NEO, we embrace all cultures and human experiences. We believe that in these intersections we can experience authentic community, purpose for life and hope for the future. Through our weekly gatherings, community outreach projects, and life on life discipleship we have been responding to the great expressed need for church that is relevant to this generation and addressing the social concerns of the last, least, and lost.
*Third culture is the mindset and the will to love, learn, and serve in any culture, even in the midst of pain and discomfort.
Purpose of The Safe House
In response to the rapidly increasing instances of human trafficking, we are establishing a human trafficking rehabilitation center. To begin with, we plan to provide half-way services to victims (temporary place to stay, immediate medical attention, etc.) and develop into a full service center (psychological care, repartition, education, etc.). Launch date: November 1, 2009
